Catch and Release at Frensham allows our visitors to enjoy continued fly-fishing once the permitted nos. of fish on the ticket (the ‘bag’) have been taken.
This policy does have its downside however, namely potential damage to fish caused by mishandling, and a lower turnover of stock.
To address these issues, I will be liaising with some of our regulars during their forthcoming visits to selectively take fish out of the lakes that are not in absolutely prime condition.
This will, of course, need to be done in a very controlled way, both in terms of timing and numbers of fish taken, to ensure that the overall impact is positive for ongoing fishing conditions.
Adopting this approach, will allow me to work closely with our suppliers and continue with our trickle stocking replacement arrangements.
Any fish removed in this way, surplus to requirements, may also be offered up to local care homes and charities.
There will be more news to follow on this subject, for sure.
