We’re incredibly fortunate to be located in such a stunning natural setting—and it’s not just perfect for fly fishing. This rich environment is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, adding a unique charm to every visit.

Among the aquatic birds you might spot are our resident herons and the vibrant kingfishers—after which our upper and lower lakes are named. Mallards, coots, moorhens, and the occasional visiting geese also make frequent appearances. In the surrounding ditches and drains, you’ll find frogs and toads going about their quiet lives.

Swallows and wagtails regularly dart around the Hatch, and a small colony of bats adds to the evening atmosphere. On land, keep an eye out for roe deer, muntjacs, foxes, and even badgers if you’re lucky.

Our ongoing rewilding efforts not only improve the quality of the fishing experience but also create a thriving habitat for local wildlife.

The current BBC Springwatch TV series is a timely reminder of how important (and fascinating & interesting) our wildlife is, and we are determined to play our part at Frensham.

Next time you visit, take a moment to look beyond the water—you might be surprised by what you discover.
